Indiana's Professional Licensing Agency offers a free search-and-verify service covering every Indiana professional license holder. The agency describes it as an original source for accreditation purposes, updated continuously in real time as records change, so the status shown is the current one. No account is needed for the free search; paid options add an official verification and data downloads.
Indiana's license records carry the licensee's name, license number, address, issue dates, expiration dates and license status; those are the fields the agency's customized data download supplies for each professional, and license status is what the free search-and-verify service confirms in real time. The paid official verification adds information the free search does not show.
For an official record, the Professional Licensing Agency sells an official verification with more detail than the free search in a printable format, for $1.43 by credit card or $1.00 through a subscriber account, and a nurse can send a simple verification or digital certification of their Indiana license to another state the same way. The free search remains the original source for accreditation purposes.
Indiana participates in the Nurse Licensure Compact. An applicant for an Indiana nursing license may request a compact multistate license in addition to the primary Indiana license during the application, for an additional $25 fee. Nurses applying by endorsement must hold an active license in at least one other U.S. state or territory and must have verification sent from every state where they have ever held a nursing license, through Nursys where that state participates.
