The license qualifier must document four years of required work experience within the preceding ten years.
An applicant generally must pass law-and-business and trade examinations. The C-61 Limited Specialty classification is exempt from the trade examination, and CSLB determines other waivers during application review.
The sole-owner application has a nonrefundable $450 application fee, plus a 2.3% card-company fee when filed online. A $200 initial license fee is due after the qualifier passes the required examinations.
Every individual named on a sole-owner contractor application must submit fingerprints.
CSLB offers reciprocity through equivalency determinations for similar contractor-license classifications in Arizona, Louisiana, and Nevada.
